Continuing across Canada...
We are happy to recognize Erin Lewis, BSc, PhD Candidate, University of Alberta Student Representative as this month's student of the month.
Erin Lewis is a PhD candidate in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta. After completing her BSc at the University of Guelph in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences, she moved to Edmonton to work under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Field and Dr. René Jacobs. Erin's research focuses on the role of maternal choline on infant development. She has a particular interest on how different dietary forms of choline affect the development of the offspring’s immune system. She has published research on the choline intake in a cohort of Albertan women, and the choline composition of Albertan products including legumes, meat and dairy products. She has won awards for her presentations on choline in the diet of pregnant and lactating women in Alberta and its role in the development of the infant’s immune system including first prize in the student competition at the 2014 CNS-SCN Annual Conference in St. John’s NL. Erin also holds several scholarships including the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship and NSERC Postgraduate Doctoral Scholarship.

In addition to her graduate work, Erin has been actively involved in the Department as a teaching assistant for a variety of nutrition course for over three years. She also volunteers with the Families Living Well Society and assists in the facilitation of programs that promote healthy living among Edmonton families.

Erin’s tireless work to support CNS-SCN at University of Alberta as a student representative and her willingness to contribute to the national student effort make her July’s student of the month!
