With increasing rates of immigration to Canada, particularly with the recent influx of refugees from conflict regions, Syria in particular, and their settlement in large and small urban and rural areas, concerns emerge regarding their basic needs, particularly access to culturally appropriate and affordable food and access to nutritional care. Concerns about the nutritional health of refugees from a high prevalence of food insecurity and consumption of low quality food to their short and long-term consequences such as obesity, diabetes, and risk of cardiovascular diseases are directly relevant to the professional practice in nutrition and dietetics field as well as researchers. As a point of start, we propose a webinar with one or two talks providing an overview of the nutritional health of new Canadians and their access to nutritional care. This webinar, at the national level, will inform the stakeholders and make the stage ready for a potential more comprehensive event in future.
