"Can plaque still be considered a cause of dental disease? A critical view from a nutritional science perspective":
Dental diseases like caries and periodontitis are classically considered to be caused by dental plaque or a lack of oral hygiene. However, looking from a biological, nutritional and evolutionary perspective, these civilisatory diseases are merely a consequence of modern lifestyles, especially a western type of diet. The aim of the webinar is to present the underlying evidence and encourage greater integration of nutrition counseling into dental practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To explore the different role of plaque, fluorides and sugar in the process of caries
  2. To gain insight of the inflammatory role of diet in the process of gingival inflammation
  3. To understand the chance and importance of dietary counseling in the dental practice with regard to both oral and general diseases.
