MSc Human Nutrition – Fructose Impact on Lipid and Carbohydrate Metabolism

We are looking for a new graduate student (either MSc or PhD) to work on an on-going project focused on the role dietary fructose plays in the metabolism of exogenous and endogenous lipids and carbohydrates by the liver and other tissues . The project will involve running an animal study (e.g. C57BL6 mice) that focuses on how fructose intakes impact lipid and carbohydrate metabolism using stable isotopes and mass spectrometry, energy expenditure, sleep, and activity using state-of-the-art metabolic monitoring cages, and long-term changes in body and tissue composition. Ideal candidates would have a BSc degree with a major in nutrition, biochemistry, physiology or similar area of concentration. The position has a full stipend (e.g. NSERC level funding) and opportunities for fellowships, scholarships, and teaching assistantships. Interested students should send their resumes/CV and copy of their university transcripts (unofficial is acceptable) to sharding@mun.ca. Please reference the “fructose project" in your subject line. Given the volume of requests received for previous student postings, only those meeting the criteria listed above will be contacted.
