Executive Director

Andrea Grantham

For more than 25 years, Andrea Grantham has held a variety of leadership roles in the not-for-profit sector, with an emphasis on nutrition, health, physical activity, and sport. Andrea has served as the Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) Executive Director since 2014 when she was hired as the first CNS staff person. Under her leadership, CNS has grown to a team of seven members and counting, a broad array of new initiatives, and a strong membership network.

Prior to joining CNS, Andrea served as a consultant supporting many not-for-profit organizations in their strategic planning, organizational development, government and stakeholder relations, and communications and advocacy. She served as the Executive Director and CEO of Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) from 2004-2012, and as their Director of Communications and Operations from 2003-05. She was a member of the ParticipACTION Policy and Capacity Building and the ParticipACTION Communications committee for many years.

Trusted and respected among government funders, Andrea spent considerable time on Parliament Hill in front of standing committees, senators and MPs advocating for physical activity and physical education as interventions to Canada’s obesity epidemic. She was often sought after to present on this issue and was invited to play a role in developing Active Canada 20/20, A Physical Activity Strategy and Change Agenda. Andrea is the recipient of the Queenʹs Diamond Jubilee Medallion for her leadership in the Physical Activity Community. She was also named as one of 20 of the Most Influential Women in Sport and Physical Activity in 2010 and 2011 (awarded by Canadian Woman & Sport).
