CNS-SCN Member of the Month – April 2016
Meet Rebecca Mercer
Rebecca is an MSc Candidate at the University of British Columbia in Human Nutrition. She is currently working towards creating a partnership project with rural First Nation's communities to understand the experiences of providing and receiving prenatal nutrition care in rural communities across British Columbia.
Rebecca completed her undergraduate degree in Nutrition at Acadia University where she was an active member in the Acadia Global Brigades, Canadian Diabetes Association and, S.M.I.L.E. program. After completing her undergraduate degree, she moved across the country to the beautiful west coast of British Columbia where she worked with UBC’s Family Practice with the Centre for Rural Health Research. Rebecca developed an interest in rural and Indigenous Health while working at the Centre for Rural Health Research and her current thesis project is a merging of her nutrition and Indigenous health interests.
Rebecca has remained an active volunteer and is the Vancouver Volunteer Coordinator for Mealshare as well as a mentor through the Urban Native Youth Association.
Rebecca is currently early in her tenure as the CNS-SCN University Student Representative at UBC. We look forward to her providing a link between CNS-SCN and UBC’s nutrition programs.
