Canadian Nutrition Society Food for The Board of Directors of the CNS Food for Health Foundation is pleased to announce that the Foundation has been registered as a charitable organization by the Canada Revenue Agency, and was officially launched at the CNS Annual Meeting in St. John's, NL, on June 7, 2014. The Canadian Nutrition Society Food for Health Foundation has been incorporated as a Foundation to promote research in the science and practice of nutrition, and to disseminate sound information about nutrition to those in the field, policy makers and the public. Canada's Law on Anti-Spam and Other Electronic Threats In the last few issues of the Members' Update we advised you that CNS-SCN is required to effect the Canada anti-spam legislation and how we communicate with you, our members. Given that the CNS-SCN is a paperless organization, this will have an immediate impact, so we are counting on you to participate to help us make this transition seamless. The CRTC and Industry Canada have published final regulations related to Canada's anti-spam legislation. A copy of the regulations can be found on the CRTC website; the Industry Canada regulations are available on their website. The new legislation will come into effect on July 1, 2014. What does that mean for CNS-SCN Members? CNS-SCN communicates with its membership via e-mail; in accordance with the new law you must indicate whether you wish to receive electronic correspondence from us. Previous permissions collected under the privacy legislation (PIPEDA) will not be sufficient, according to the government. The CNS has provided two options for you to choose from in your personal profile: you can agree to receive electronic correspondence, or indicate you do not wish to receive electronic correspondence. If you agree, you will continue to receive all correspondence from the CNS via e-mail after July 1, 2014; if you DO NOT agree you will receive your membership renewal and Annual General Meeting package from CNS via Canada Post, and will not receive any other correspondence (e.g. notices of national and regional conferences and sound bites, etc.) While the legislation comes into effect July 1, 2014, we will be working with our members within the next six months to effect this change. Please go to your personal member profile and make your selection as soon as possible, and, in any case, before December 31, 2014. Here's how to access your personal information via the CNS website:
