Pre-Conference WorkshopsDon't miss this excellent line up of
workshops taking place on May 28, 2015 at the RBC Convention Centre, Winnipeg, MB, from 8:30am to 6:00pm
The 2015
Food for Health Workshop builds on a series of workshops to enhance the health of Canadians by better understanding the challenges and opportunities across the continuum from the producer to processor, manufacturer, retailer, researcher, healthcare professional, government to consumer. The 2015 workshop specifically builds on last year's Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP) and how they can be effective for knowledge creation. This year we will examine how PPP can move and translate knowledge to educate consumers and stakeholders.
- Trainees in Nutrition Symposium
Organized by trainees for trainees, this
symposium will focus on developing and strengthening professional skills for those engaged in nutrition research, teaching and knowledge translation. Activities will consist of presentations by experts and thought leaders, as well as networking skills workshops. It will be capped off with a networking session with professionals from across the spectrum of academia, industry, government/non-government organizations.
- New Developments in the Management of Obesity Workshop
Obesity management remains an important if not challenging goal, both for the general population who struggle to maintain healthy body weights, and for health professionals who have the burden to find solutions. In the field of nutrition, research progress in diet-based management of obesity has enhanced our understanding related to the vulnerability of some obesity-prone individuals, to identify and characterize unsuspected determinants of appetite control problems and body weight gain, and to develop functional foods that will enhance satiety. From a clinical standpoint, research advances have allowed us to define, in a more realistic manner, the limits of weight-reducing programs and the characteristics of individuals who are apparently resistant to proposed dietary interventions. This
workshop will document these issues while also providing an update of the current status of the Canadian population in relation to obesity. Additionally, the workshop will cover potential new intervention guidelines for the management of obesity.
The CNS Annual General MeetingThe

Post-Conference Workshop: Lipid Nutrition and Metabolism in Human HealthMay 31-June 1, 2015, University of Manitoba
The lipids research community from the “Red River Region” of Manitoba and North Dakota, in partnership with the Canadian Nutrition Society, has organized a workshop designed to explore the relationships between lipid nutrition, lipid metabolism, and human health. Beyond their classical roles as energy substrates and structural components of cell membranes, lipids are now recognized as important signaling molecules and as regulators of enzymatic pathways within cells. Dietary fats and oils, whether from plant or animal sources, significantly influence lipid physiology within cells, leading to profound health effects.
The workshop will include opportunities for attendees to present their research in both oral and poster format. Furthermore, opportunity exists for full manuscripts (reviews or original work) derived from the workshop to be published in a special supplement to the journal “Lipids”, as part of the journal’s 50th Anniversary.
For more information, please consult the post-conference webpage at:
