Michele’s career has spanned over 30 years in critical care nutrition practice at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, serving medical, surgical, trauma and cardiovascular ICU patients. Over this period, she has shared her expertise through presentations both nationally and internationally for a wide variety of health care audiences. Practice-based research has also always been a passion, and Michele has authored or co-authored many studies in a variety of critical care areas. These have included, energy expenditure and indirect calorimetry, delivery of enteral and parenteral nutrition, implementing enteral protocols, antioxidant supplementation, and several systematic reviews. She has taught various clinical nutrition and research courses for 19 years at Toronto Metropolitan University in the School of Nutrition. After many years of instructing dietetic interns, Michele developed the first mentoring program for interns in Canada. She has won several teaching awards including the St. Michael’s Hospital Education Excellence Award after her three years as Dietetic Internship Coordinator. Michele has also served as chair of the Dietetic Education and Leadership Forum of Ontario and the Ontario Dietetic Association Nutrition Support Interest Group. She has been a member of multiple national and international nutrition support guideline committees, including the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. After retiring from St. Michael's Hospital, Michele created McCall Dietetics, an on-line continuing education business focused on web-based clinical nutrition courses for dietitians.
