DESCRIPTION:

AI provides us with an opportunity to improve the integrity of nutritional sciences research while also supporting clinical practice and advancing personalized nutrition. An overview of how AI may be a solution to address areas of bias and inefficiency in nutritional sciences research will be discussed alongside examples of current use. We will also examine practical applications of AI in public health and clinical settings. Participants will gain an understanding of the role of AI in dietary pattern assessment and translating dietary recommendations, including recently developed tools where AI has been integrated to improve clinical efficiency, the ability to capture data on dietary intake and provide dietary assessments. Limitations of the current state of AI in these tools will also be addressed.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr. Laura Chiavaroli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and Affiliate Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael's Hospital.
