About the Speakers:

Catherine Richardson - I have been a home parenteral nutrition patient for eight years and I was on home enteral nutrition for a year before that. Through my experiences with my own health as well as with the healthcare system, I have seen the difference it makes when patient voices are not just listened to but also elevated, and I am now involved in many different patient engagement opportunities with the purpose of making sure our voices are prioritized. I'm especially interested in the areas of patient experience, patient safety and quality improvement. I also understand the difference it makes when patients are able to connect with each other and realize we're not alone. There is something so powerful about the support of someone who has lived through what you've lived through, and that's why I'm so pleased to be a member of CPPENA.

Adela Delgado has been a registered dietitian for Adult Patients on The Northern Alberta Home TPN Program since July 2017. She graduated from the University of Alberta in 2004 with a BSc. in Nutrition & Food Sciences & completed her Dietetic Internship at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in 2005. She has worked in acute care hospitals in ON & AB in the areas of neurology, orthopedics, general surgery, & critical care. Her interest in Total Parenteral Nutrition was almost immediate, and she received a lot of practice writing PN orders in the acute care setting, while working at the University of Alberta Hospital. Home TPN became an increasing interest while providing coverage for her friend, office mate, colleague & mentor Holly Ames. Holly had been the RD with HPN for more than 20 years, and it was obvious that she worked with a great team, and deeply cared about her patients – hard shoes to fill indeed. Adela jumped at the chance to transition into the HPN program after Holly's retirement in 2017 and has not looked back. Following in Holly's footsteps, Adela strives to provide the best possible care for patients with intestinal failure and finds that working with this patient population is very rewarding. She looks forward to many more years with the HPN crew!

Deanna Zaverucka has been a registered dietitian with Alberta Health Services for 6 years, graduating from the University of Alberta in 2017 with a BSc in Nutrition and Food Sciences. In this time, Deanna has been afforded many opportunities to work in a variety of both acute care and ambulatory environments, including almost 2 years with the Northern Alberta Home Nutrition Support Program. More recently, Deanna has been working in adult inpatient Gastroenterology, where she takes great care working closely with hospitalized patients being discharged home on home enteral and parenteral nutrition therapy. It is one of her top priorities to ensure a smooth transition for patients moving from the acute care setting to community life, navigating their new way of eating
