Navigating the gluten free diet for children with newly diagnosed Celiac Disease in Canada
Children with celiac disease are required to follow a lifelong strict gluten free diet .  This session will review essential information for children beginning on a gluten free diet, navigating cross-contamination and lifestyle management.  We will review the specific ongoing clinical care required for children with celiac disease.

Dr. Jenna Dowhaniuk, MD, MSc is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at McMaster Children’s Hospital, Associate Professor at McMaster University, and an associate member of The Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute.  She is the medical lead of the Pediatric Celiac Disease Clinic and the Complex Nutrition Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital.  She is passionate about innovation that improves healthcare for children with gastrointestinal disease and is the co-chair of the Pediatric Nutrition Advisory Committee at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Dr Dowhaniuk's research focus includes how diet and gut microbiota intersect in gastrointestinal disease, pediatric celiac disease, and nutrition in inflammatory bowel disease.

Beyond the plate: Understanding and Addressing Feeding Differences in Autism
Autistic individuals experience challenges with feeding and eating behaviours over the lifespan. Increasing awareness of the heterogeneity of this eating/feeding spectrum is important for early identification, management, and improved quality of life. This overview will give you the foundation to identify why going “beyond the plate” is important.

Dr. Sharon Smile is a developmental pediatrician at Sunny Hill Health Centre, BC Children’s Hospital. Her research interest centers around feeding challenges experienced by autistic children and youth.

Clare Roscoe, MD, FRCPC
Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario

Dr. Clare Roscoe is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. She has worked at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa for more than 20 years and is the former Psychiatric Director of CHEO’s Eating Disorder Program. 
Dr. Roscoe has a strong commitment to medical education and previously served as Program Director of the University of Ottawa’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program. She currently holds the roles of Medical Director of CHEO’s Psychiatric Emergency Services and Division Chief of Hospital-Based Psychiatry at CHEO.  Throughout her career, Dr. Roscoe has been passionate about knowledge translation in the field of eating disorders, with a particular focus on increasing awareness, improving early detection, and promoting accurate diagnosis.
