CNS is pleased to partner with ESPEN for our fifth annual LLL live module on Nutritional Support in the Older Adult

This live LLL session is being held during the CNS 2018 Annual Conference. The course has limited capacity and is available to clinical professionals, with primary acceptance given to those professionals who are CNS members.

The Nutrition in Older Adults course comprises four modules (both web-based and live) that cover the prevalence, etiologies, consequences, screening, diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition in the older adult, as well as age-related sarcopenia. The live courses complement the web material. They are followed by a case presentation and discussion and by an exam (30 yes/no questions) after which, based on the results, a participation/success diploma will be given.The LLL Nutritional Support in the Older Adult modules will include:

About Dr. Stéphane Schneider

Professor Stéphane Schneider heads the Nutritional Support Unit in the Gastroenterology and Nutrition Department of the Archet University Hospital in Nice (France). He is also head of the Nice University Hospital’s food-nutrition liaison committee. Dr. Schneider is vice-president of the French-Speaking Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (SFNEP), and chairs the Educational and Clinical Practice Committee of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN). Three years after receiving his M.D. in Gastroenterology from the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, he became an assistant Professor and later a full Professor of Nutrition. He is also certified by the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He obtained a Master of Science from the University of Paris VII, and a Ph.D. in nutrition from the University Paul Cezanne, as well as a CME Diploma from Harvard Medical School. His main research interests are intestinal failure and the effects of aging and chronic diseases on nutritional status. He has published 188 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, with an h index of 37. He has been a speaker at the CSN annual conference in 2005 and 2012.


About Dr. Johane Allard

Johane P. Allard is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada and is crossed-appointed at the Department of Nutritional Sciences. She trained in gastroenterology at McGill University before completing a research fellowship funded by the National Institute of Nutrition at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Allard is a clinical investigator, with a research focus in nutrition and gastrointestinal disorders. She is currently conducting several studies funded by peer-reviewed agencies in: the elderly, people with HIV infection, people with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and transplant recipients. Her interests and publications are primarily in the area of micronutrients, oxidative stress and nutrition support.

Dr. Allard is also the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Toronto and the Director of the Nutritional Support Program at the University Health Network (UHN). She works with a multidisciplinary nutritional support team and is the Chair of the Nutrition Review Committee. She is the Division Head of Gastroenterology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. She also co-chair the Royal College of Physician and Surgeon Examining Board in Gastroenterology.


About the LLL Program:

The Life Long Learning (LLL) program in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism is an extremely effective educational program for medical doctors and health specialists, including registered dieticians, nurses and pharmacists offering training on-line and at live courses, by variety of innovative training methodologies and resources.

LLL program in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism is based on an Educational curriculum offering 120 training modules (100 are already available on-line) created and peer reviewed by recognized European experts. The Modules are freely accessible on-line after registration (Create new account at www.LLLnutrition.com). The module is the main educational unit of LLL-Program. Each module consists of updated review on a certain problem, clinical case, self-assessment test and grading quiz. Modules on related subject areas are grouped into Topics making it easier for the user to select modules in a particular field of interest.

Live courses (100 per year) provide intensive training and certification. Annual schedule of live courses is announced as Future Live Courses at LLLnutrition.com and on the ESPEN website.Credits are awarded at live courses and for on-line training. Participation in a live course on one topic provides 3 CME credits. Each topic taken on-line provides CME credits as well. Credit accumulation gives you the opportunity to be awarded the ESPEN Diploma in Clinical Nutrition.  The LLL program gives an opportunity to study on an individual plan comprising self-selected list of modules, courses and lectures.

LLL Program in Nutrition and Metabolism is a global effort of ESPEN supported by EU to provide post-graduate qualification in Clinical Nutrition and thus to improve daily clinical practice.  It was developed as the project BG-03-B-F-PP-166039 of Leonardo da Vinci Program by ESPEN and a number of European universities with the support of European Union.  LLL Program in Nutrition and Metabolism was accredited by Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes.
