This webinar is presented in English / Ce webinaire sera présenté en Anglais.
Webinar description:
Malnutrition is a serious health issue that is often hidden and untreated in hospitals. In Canada, up to 1 in 2 adults and up to 1 in 3 children are malnourished upon admission to hospital. While in hospital, ~20% of adults further deteriorate nutritionally. Follow-up of patients at nutrition risk after hospital discharge is commonly lacking. Based on 2014 Canadian dollars, an adult with malnutrition is anticipated to have an extra 2-3 day hospital stay which, in addition to an extra cost of ~$2,000, impacts access and flow, a critical key performance indicator (KPI) for hospital leaders. With rising hospital demands and lack of community supports, the economic and health burden of malnutrition on our healthcare system is expected to rise.
Nutrition interventions aimed at reducing malnutrition can result in significant cost savings and decreased lengths of stay which have a direct impact on access and flow, an important objective for hospital leaders. Senior hospital leaders are in a unique position to elevate the need to adopt nutrition interventions in their settings. CMTF in collaboration with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), recently engaged in focused open discussion forums with senior health leaders across the country to have a better understanding of the levers to the next steps in elevating nutrition care in Canadian hospitals.
Join us for this interview style webinar to gain insights from two senior health leaders who recognized the impact of the evidence on malnutrition and leveraged this to implement important changes in their hospitals. They will share their insights, experience, and recommendations on how to accelerate the adoption of best nutrition care practices. Practical tips on how clinicians, managers, and health leaders can “ACT” by Advocating for best nutrition care practices & Collaborating with others to Transform nutrition care, will be shared.
This session is targeted to, but not limited to:
Front-line hospital dietitians & allied health, managers, senior healthcare leaders and anyone interested in identifying tangible ways to have a greater impact on patient outcomes while targeting important hospital Key Performance Indicators.
