Webinar description: The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force (CMTF) is ready to launch their Subjective Global Nutrition Assessment (SGNA)Video to help you assess malnutrition in pediatric populations. Attend this interactive webinar session to learn how you can use Subjective Global Nutrition Assessment (SGNA), the gold standard for diagnosing malnutrition and identifying those who would benefit from nutrition care. Our presenters will provide an overview of the features of the new SGNA video and share their insights on how to implement SGNA. In this interactive session, speakers will engage the audience to explore strategies to advance the use of SGNA in clinical practice and in educational curricula across Canada.

About the Panelists:
Jessie Hulst MD, PhD - Dr. Jessie Hulst is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Nutritional Sciences of the University of Toronto. Previously, she served as a Staff Gastroenterologist at Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam, Netherlands (2011-2018). Her academic achievements include a PhD focused on nutritional assessment in critically ill children (2004), development of a nutritional (risk) screening tool (STRONGkids), and > 95 peer-reviewed publications. She was involved in the implementation of the Dutch Malnutrition Taskforce pediatric malnutrition pathway and mandatory National Hospital Quality Indicators. She is currently the co-chair of the Pediatric working group of the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force. Recently, she was appointed as Distinguished Fellow in Child Nutrition at the Joannah & Brian Lawson Centre for Child Nutrition, University of Toronto, with a mission to enhance physician competency in both clinical and public health nutrition through educational initiatives and resource development.
Laura Carter, MSc RD - Laura Carter is a dedicated Dietitian and Provincial Practice Lead at Alberta Health Services. She holds a Bachelor of Science and completed her Dietetic internship at the University of Alberta, where she also earned her Master of Science in Human Nutrition & Metabolism. Laura's expertise lies in pediatric malnutrition. She has supported implementation of pediatric nutrition screening in major pediatric hospitals throughout the province and training dietitians on the Subjective Global Nutritional Assessment (SGNA). Laura’s research has focused on nutrition screening and assessment, including validating a pediatric nutrition screening tool for use in Alberta, updating the SGNA form, and understanding patient and family’s perspective on nutrition screening.
Erin Starman, BSc, RD, MHA Candidate - is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. She works within the Children’s Health Centre of Surrey Memorial Hospital, BC. She is a Clinical Instructor with the University of British Columbia dietetics department, and she is a member of the Pediatric Working Group of the CMTF.
Erin is firm believer that front line clinicians have the power to make positive change in the healthcare system. She has led a number of pediatric quality improvement initiatives within the Fraser Health Authority, including regional implementation of pediatric malnutrition screening and the SGNA.
