Webinar description: Canadian front-of-pack labelling (FOPL) regulations mandate pre-packaged food and beverage products meeting and/or exceeding thresholds for nutrients-of-concern (sodium, saturated fat, and sugars) display a ‘High in’ nutrition symbol by January 2026. FOPL has been shown to improve diets by changing consumer behaviours and promoting manufacturer-driven reformulation. Canadian FOPL regulations also have the potential to support Canadians’ adherence to part of the recommendations of Canada’s food guide by helping individuals reduce their intakes of foods ‘high in’ nutrients-of-concern. This webinar will examine the potential impact of Canadian FOPL regulations on Canadians’ nutrient intakes, the pre-packaged food supply, and their ability to support adherence to Canada’s food guide.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the evidence on FOPL systems to understand how FOPL regulations can improve population diets
  2. Examine the potential impact of Canadian FOPL regulations on nutrient intakes and the pre-packaged food supply in Canada; and
  3. Identify gaps in Canadian FOPL regulations that can inform future research and policy.

Moderator: Mary L'Abbe, PhD, CM (University of Toronto)
