About the Speakers:   

Michael R. Donaldson is Director of Strategic Initiatives at Canadian Science Publishing (CSP), Canada’s largest independent, not-for-profit publisher of international scientific journals. Over the past decade at Canadian Science Publishing, he has held roles spanning content development, editorial leadership, open science, and strategic partnerships. In his current position, he is responsible for advancing innovative publishing models and forging collaborations that strengthen equity, sustainability, and global participation in open access. Michael is active in national and international conversations on open science, collaborating and serving on advisory boards and committees with organizations including Coalition Publica, the Directory of Open Access Journals, and the Canadian Association of Learned Journals.


Josephine E. Sciortino is Editorial Director at Canadian Science Publishing, where she manages a team of journal development specialists to grow journals in the Life Sciences and Agricultural disciplines. She is also Chair of the Education Committee at the Council of Science Editors. In 2019, she received a Master’s Degree in Professional Studies, focusing on Publishing at George Washington University. She has worked in scholarly publishing for over 25 years with various biomedical societies in the management of their specialty journals, including the Canadian Urological Association Journal (as the inaugural managing editor) and the Canadian Medical Association Journal. She also is an active volunteer at her local library and literacy group in Montreal, Canada.
