Webinar description:
Calcium is an essential nutrient crucial for bone health and various physiological functions. However, the role of calcium supplementation in cardiovascular health has been a topic of ongoing debate and research. Emerging evidence has raised questions about the potential cardiovascular risks associated with calcium supplementation, although it is still debatable, creating a need for update for healthcare professionals and the public. This webinar aims to address these concerns by discussing the latest findings and their implications for clinical practice and public health.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the current research and evidence regarding the effects of calcium supplementation on cardiovascular health
  2. Identify the potential mechanisms linking calcium supplementation to cardiovascular outcomes.
  3. Evaluate the risks and benefits of calcium supplementation for different population subgroups.
    • Identify the risks of avoiding required calcium intake in older populations as a negative consequence of misinterpretation of research results by the public

Moderator: JoAnne Arcand PhD, RD (Ontario Tech University)
