Research Associate Position
Salary Range: $50,000 - $70,000 plus benefits

The Azad Lab (www.azadlab.ca) is situated at the University of Manitoba and Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM). We study how early-life exposures and experiences shape lifelong health. Our current research is focused on the role of maternal nutrition, infant feeding and human milk composition in the development and prevention of asthma, allergies, obesity and diabetes. Our team is transdisciplinary, combining expertise in molecular biology, epidemiology, statistics, nutrition and maternal-child health. We collaborate and use model systems, clinical cohorts, and administrative databases to study DOHaD in cells, animals and human populations.
We are seeking a full time Research Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in one of the following areas: epidemiology, biostatistics, microbiome, nutrition, immunology, pediatrics. An equivalent of education and substantial research experience will be considered.
Essential qualities and skills include:
- Enthusiasm for research, discovery, and creative/effective data visualization
- Passion for maternal-child health
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Attention to detail
- Ability to manage projects and motivate a team
- Open-mindedness (both scientifically and culturally)
Experience in the following is required:
- Performing literature reviews
- Writing and submitting ethics applications, manuscripts, grants and research proposals
- Statistical analysis of research data
- Managing projects (setting objectives, milestones, monitoring progress)
- Mentoring trainees on all aspects of research related work (e.g. developing research questions, setting objectives, troubleshooting, editing work, monitoring progress)
Must be proficient with:
- Microsoft Word (formatting professional documents)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (making presentations and research posters)
- Microsoft Excel (manipulating data, using formulas, making graphs)
- File sharing (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive)
- Reference management software (e.g. EndNote, Mendeley)
- Statistical software (e.g. SAS, R, SPSS, STATA)
- Photoshop or other graphical software
- REDCap or other data management software
- Creating/managing budgets
- Creating videos
- Creating/managing websites, social media
