Horizon Postdoctoral Fellowship - Metabolism, Obesity, and Nutrition lab
Concordia University in Montreal, Canada is currently accepting applications for a Horizon Postdoctoral Fellowship valued at $50,000 per year (plus benefits) for each of two years, in the Metabolism, Obesity, and Nutrition lab.
The Metabolism, Obesity, and Nutrition (MON) lab performs cutting-edge multi-disciplinary human research aimed to identify the effects of obesity from the cell to the entire body on the prevention and progression of disease. Currently, we are looking to understand the unique contribution of regional subcutaneous fat to metabolic disease risk in adulthood and childhood onset obesity.
The ideal candidate will employ techniques in cellular and molecular biology to examine differences in primary preadiopocytes and myocytes that have been isolated from adults who have had obesity since childhood vs. adulthood. There will also be opportunity to be involved and develop skills in study recruitment and coordination, measurement of body composition, fitness and strength measurements, primary cell culture, flow cytometry, and other wet lab protocols. Soft skill development (networking, presentation, etc) will also be developed.
MON lab provides a strong training ground to prepare trainees for an independent career in academia, government, or industry.
Academic qualifications required:
PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree and training in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, Nutrition, or related fields. Understanding of metabolism or physiology, and experience with microscopy and cell culture and co-culture techniques is preferred. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research through their training and peer-reviewed publications.
Application checklist:
- Cover page demonstrating fit with the program described above (1-2 pages)
- Academic CV.
- One letter of reference from academic supervisors or current employers
Please send application via e-mail directly to: Sylvia Santosa at s.santosa@concordia.ca with subject: Horizon Fellowship Application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
