Dr Tamara Cohen PhD RD, s a registered dietitian and Associate Professor in Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of British Columbia. She currently serves as Director of Dietetics Programs and Associate Dean, Students and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and is also an Investigator at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
Dr. Cohen’s research program focuses on eating behaviours across the lifespan, with the overarching goal of improving dietary habits through evidence‑informed approaches. Her work is grounded in theoretical frameworks, which her team applies to real‑world nutrition and dietary contexts. A key component of this work involves the development and evaluation of nutrition education tools and resources, designed not only to educate individuals about healthy eating but also to rigorously assess their impact on dietary behaviour change.
In addition to her academic research, Dr. Cohen supports clinically embedded research through the Generation Health program at BC Children’s Hospital, serving families of children living with obesity, as well as the Montreal Children’s Hospital Adolescent Medicine Unit, supporting adolescents living with severe obesity. These roles ensure her work remains closely connected to clinical care, patients, and families.
As a bilingual academic dietitian with strong national networks across research, education, and clinical practice, Dr. Cohen brings a broad and inclusive perspective. She is well positioned to contribute to the governance of CNS, amplify diverse voices, and support the Society’s mandate in serving Canada’s nutrition community.
