Kyly Whitfield is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Human Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, where she leads the Milk and Micronutrient Assessment (MAMA) Lab. She is passionate about maternal and child nutrition in the first 1,000 days, from conception to two years, leading an applied public health-focussed research program globally and at home in Nova Scotia. Some current areas of focus include exploring fortification to address thiamine deficiency among breastfed infants in Southeast Asia, and studying infant feeding behaviours, particularly responsive feeding and social norms of breastfeeding. She is a key member of the Global Thiamine Alliance, leading efforts for a global roadmap to combat thiamine deficiency and beriberi (Ann NY Acad Sci. 2018;1430(1):3–43). Kyly has been an active CNS member since 2013, having served on the Education Committee and Trainee Leadership Committee, and is a previous awardee of the CIHR-INMD CNS Early Career Researcher Partnership Prize.
