Nutrition in Medical Education for Healthcare Professionals
A nutrition education program for healthcare professionals
to increase their confidence and capacity in providing nutrition guidance
CNS’ NutriMEd is an innovative program that aims to enhance competence and confidence in delivering effective nutrition guidance, with the goal of improving health outcomes across diverse communities.
Despite the critical role nutrition plays in health and disease prevention, many healthcare providers report feeling underprepared to offer evidence-based dietary advice due to limited formal training. NutriMEd will address this gap with a robust, evidence-informed curriculum created by leading nutrition scientists, researchers, and registered dietitians.
Target Audience:
- Undergraduate medical students
- Medical residents
- Practicing physicians
- Medical specialists
- Allied health professionals (nurses, dentists, physiotherapists, etc)
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge and practical counseling skills to support patients’ nutritional needs confidently. The program also provides essential insights into when and how to refer to registered dietitians—empowering healthcare professionals to deliver tailored dietary guidance in both urban and remote Canadian settings.
As part of the NutriMEd program, participants will engage with a series of flexible, self-directed nutrition learning modules that can be completed at their convenience. These modules will explore areas such as nutrition for chronic disease prevention and management, dietary approaches across the lifespan, nutrition in culturally diverse populations, supplements and functional foods, and more. Each module is designed to be practical, evidence-based, and clinically relevant—ensuring that learners can immediately apply their knowledge to real-world patient care.
