Health Canada has published its final new guidance for the Novel Food Regulations, focused on plant breeding. This new guidance supplements the existing novel foods guidance and can be found in appendices 1 and 2 of the Guidelines for the Safety Assessment of Novel Foods.

Vitamin D amount in fortified plant-based beverages
On May 4, 2022, as part of its vitamin D fortification strategy, Health Canada enabled a higher level of vitamin D in fortified plant-based beverages by updating the Interim Policy on the Use of Expired Interim Marketing Authorizations Related to Food Fortification.
